awë́:ödö’

On View beginning March 2nd - May 18th

K Art is pleased to present awë:ödö’’, a solo exhibition for acclaimed artist G. Peter Jemison. Throughout the artist’s extensive career, he’s touched on many subjects, such as political climates, Native representation, and abstraction. For this spring exhibition, we uncovered hidden work from the early 2000s. In response to the growing digital landscape at the turn of the century, the artist developed an acute relationship with his environment. Depictions of snowy hills and milkweeds, essentially the Orenda, became notable during this time. However, unbeknownst to the public, floral imagery was also in high bloom.

Translating to “flowers hanging on” from the Seneca language, awë:ödö’ presents a bouquet of work in watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic, and the artist’s shrinking cloth technique – an experiment first tested in the late 60s. A few pieces are presented in negative space, highlighting the handmade paper surface, and others are energized with Jemison’s signature vibrations. awë:ödö’ welcomes Spring and the sun’s arrival with a sweet aroma.
